6/21/2009 Father's DayI'm thankful to be a dad and to have four wonderful children, two admirable (and wonderful) sons-in-law, and 3 marvelous grandchildren.
I don't feel that I have been the greatest dad in the world, but I do love my children very, very much. I desire that their hopes and dreams to be fulfilled and that they realize early just how precious is "family". 9/9/2008 Genealogy UpdateAfter the death of my ex-wife's mother earlier this year, I was able to get some genealogy records that had been passed around in her family. I've always been interested in the genealogy of my two children by my first marriage, but didn't feel it was appropriate to ask for it while my ex-wife's parents were alive. Anyway.....
I've been able through the help of Ancestry.com to also find a number of concurrent family history files that has allowed me to add hundreds of new individuals to my database. These are unsubstantiated, but I know the source and can do further research to document it later. Nevertheless, the paternal side of the family, Bonsall, is traced back to 16th century England. One maternal line, Pellerin, goes back to 17th century France. Eventually the families migrated to the New England and Canada, and later moved to Cameron County, LA.
My daughter is interested in her genealogy and is happy to learn of these new developments.
6/27/2008 E-mail from first cousin - once removedI received an e-mail from Roy Gene Mason, my mother's first cousin, the son of her father's sister. Gene lives in Siloam Springs, AR. We didn't know the Mason's that well, but I do have memories of Gene's mother,
Great-Aunt May.
We've now exchanged 3 or 4 e-mails each. I gave him a link to a photo album of the Lingle (Gene's mother's maiden name) family: http://www.connectingourkin.com/Albums/Lingle/index.html. We have an agreement that I'll try to contact him and meet for lunch (or something) as I pass through Siloam Springs on my way to the Carroll reunion on the 5th of July. I wanted also to go through there to stop by to get a picture of Mom's grave marker at her "resurrection site".
It's amazing how the Internet has allowed families to hookup again. I'm blessed.
6/12/2008 Prophecy TeachingWe just finished a 4 day series at my church on Bible prophecy. The teacher was Hilton Sutton. I found it quite interesting and not confusing. I hope to begin doing some renewed study of this topic on my own. The pastor that I was raised up as a child under in Drumright, M.A. Malone, did a lot of teaching on prophecy. Dr. Sutton and my pastor pretty much agree on the order of prophetic events. The difference is that Dr. Sutton teaches no FEAR regarding these events to the child of God. His is a faith-filled approach that I find refreshing and much more in line with the rest of the Gospel.
I'm thinking that I could use my Windows Live space to document some of my notes about this subject. I would start tonight, but I'm a bit tired out from late services each night this week.
I will add a link to Dr. Hilton's site from my spaces home page.
